Qualcomm has finally announced the Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 after months of buzz surrounding them. These Mobile platforms will replace the previous generation’s Snapdragon 653 and Snapdragon 626 Respectively.
The Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 lie between the Snapdragon 400 series and the Flagship Snapdragon 800 series. Snapdragon 600 series has been the go-to choice for Mid-range smartphones.
We have seen a lot of smartphones powered by the 600 series SoC’s which provide seamless performance. Recently released Blackberry KEYone the companies flagship is powered by Snapdragon 625.
Snapdragon 660 is the upgrade to last years Snapdragon 653. It is built on a 14nm FinFET technology where 653 was built on 20nm. Instead of going with Cortex CPU cores, Qualcomm went with their own kryo cores. The new platform is an Octa-core Chipset with four cores clocked at 2.2GHz and four cores clocked at 1.8GHz.
Along with that, the Modem has been upgraded to X12 LTE. The modem is capable of 600Mbps downstream and 150Mbps upstream connectivity. It comes with a support for Bluetooth 5.0 which is present on the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S8. Snapdragon 660 also supports QHD Displays and Dual-cameras up-to 16MP.
The GPU also see’s a bump up from Adreno 510 to Adreno 512. Qualcomm brings Quick Charge 4 and USB-C 3.1 support to snapdragon 660. Qualcomm claims that Snapdragon 660 is 50% more power efficient and 30% increase in Graphical performance that Snapdragon 653.
Snapdragon 630 is an upgrade to a rather new Snapdragon 626.It is also built on a 14nm FinFET technology like Snapdragon 626 Unlike Snapdragon 660, Snapdragon 630 Still uses Cortex CPU Cores. It is an Octa-core Chipset combining four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 2.2GHz with four high-efficiency Cortex-A53 cores running at 1.8GHz.

The GPU is also upgraded to Adreno 508.All the other upgrades like Bluetooth, Modem, and USB-C are similar to the snapdragon 660. Snapdragon 625 and 626 has been known for their performance and power efficiency. We can expect similar performance from the Snapdragon 630.
It will support Dual-Cameras up to 13MP and Full HD Display.

Qualcomm has already started shipping the Snapdragon 660 to manufacturers and we can expect Smartphones powered by it very soon. There was no information about the availability of Snapdragon 630. We expect to see a lot of mid-range smartphones powered by Snapdragon 660 this year.
