WhatsApp Messenger is the most used messaging app in the world. With over 200 million users in India, it is also the most used messaging app in India.
Facebook which owns WhatsApp Messenger has been busy rolling out huge updates to its services. Now according to rumors, it is planning to introduce a user to user payment in WhatsApp. Similar features are available in other messaging apps like WeChat and True caller but those aren’t as big as WhatsApp Messenger.
These rumors started after a job advertisement for WhataApp Digital Payment transactions lead was spotted on WhatsApp’s website which reads:
“Looking for a candidate with a technical and financial background – who understands India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and the BHIM payments app that enable money transfers and merchant payments using mobile numbers – to be its digital transactions lead for the country”
With recent objectives like Digital India with a vision to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. WhatsApp initiative to introduce WhatsApp digital payments will surely take Digital India Initiative to its users base in rural India.
In a statement, the WhatsApp spokesperson said “India is an important country for WhatsApp, and we’re understanding how we can contribute more to the vision of Digital India. We’re exploring how we might work with companies that share this vision and continuing to listen closely to feedback from our users”
WhatsApp has been putting effort to cement itself in Digital Payments market in India with WhatsApp Digital Payments. Its Co-founder Brian Acton has been talking about the same with Indian government since February.If anyone is looking for a job, now there is an opening Apply.
